Dear Colleagues,

It is a proud privilege for me to write a message for the current issue of Indian Journal of Nuclear Medicine (IJNM), which is dedicated to the proceedings of the 54th Annual Conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine (India) being organized by the Department of Nuclear Medicine, AIIMS New Delhi. As the world emerges from the shadows of COVID-19 pandemic, there is a great enthusiasm amongst the fraternity to meet & greet, connect and exchange ideas face to face. After a hiatus of two years, this year's annual conference is being held on a physical platform, from 08-11 Dec 2022 at New Delhi. Prof CS Bal (Organizing Chairman), and Team-AIIMS New Delhi have put together a world-class scientific program covering diverse topics with stimulating talks and debates to be delivered by renowned national and international faculty.

It is a matter of great privilege that Prof Munir Ghesani, the current President of SNMMI USA, is attending SNMICON-2022 as a distinguished guest. He brings with him a special invite for India to participate as the “Highlight Country” in the 2023 Annual meeting of SNMMI USA, to be held in Chicago next year. This indeed is a matter of distinct honor and pride for the entire Nuclear Medicine fraternity of India as it reflects a special recognition of the exceptional contributions made by Indian delegates at the SNMMI annual meetings throughout the years as speakers, strong contributors of scientific abstracts and as active participants.

This year onwards a new research award named 'Alavi-Takalkar-Kumar award' has been instituted, with contribution and funding from Indo-American Society of Nuclear Medicine (IASNM) to promote Nuclear Medicine research in India. This award has been set up to honor Dr Abbas Alavi's legacy, a pioneer in the field of Nuclear Medicine. The first edition of the award will be presented to the winners by respected Dr Abbas Alavi himself, during the SNMICON-2022.

I wish the SNMICON-2022 a great success and hope that the participants have a memorable experience enjoying the academic deliberations as well as the social interaction during the meeting.

I sincerely appreciate the tireless efforts made by Prof Rakesh Kumar (Chief editor) and the entire editorial team of IJNM, towards improving the quality and international standing of the official journal of SNM (India). The current issue of the journal carries high quality scientific papers on diverse topics, reflecting cutting edge research work being done in the field of Nuclear medicine across the country. I compliment all the authors, invited speakers, international faculty and delegates for their valuable contribution to the scientific deliberations and for showcasing their excellent research work at the SNMICON-2022.

Wishing all colleagues an enriching academic experience during the conference.

With warm regards

Dr. (Brig) Harkirat Singh

President, Society of Nuclear Medicine (India)

Professor & Head (Nuclear Medicine & Radiology)
